Noir with golden eyes
Well, it’s official … I have a new cat, as long as Noir sticks around.
And yes, the vet told us today Noir is a GIRL … not the boy I suspected, mostly because of a sweet disposition and affectionate nature.
So, there it is … we’re back to our gender harmony here on Pine Street. Before Flip passed away in January of cancer, we had one female cat, a male cat (Mayo), two female dogs (Katy and Shelby) … We got our girl count back up to snuff, I suppose. I say “we” because sis Christine is here, and smarty-pants Shelby the Lab has always been part of our animal brood.
Poor Mayo, he’s really the odd man out.
At our first vet visit, we also learned that Noir is likely 5 months old. She has all her adult teeth and is in good health. Surprisingly, no parasites … yay! … and her viral tests for feline leukemia and feline AIDS came back negative. I guess her willingness to stick close to my house and not go far from her mother (Coco Puff Kitty) helped in the long run.
For now, Noir is sequestered indoors. She’ll learn to live with dogs and in a month get her girly parts forcibly extricated. Poor gal … there’s always something.
Counting back five months, Noir was born in mid-July. So noted! At least I’ll know how old this cat is. Mayo will always be a mystery. I put him somewhere around 13 or 14, but nobody really knows.

I can’t wait to meet her.
