The days are speeding by and I’m not spending much home time on the computer. This is a good thing. Being busy is good. Now, if I could just get the body to shut down before 2 a.m., I’d get more zzzz’s.
The weekend past was packed with good things:
-
A great sale at Banana Republic, yay! I got a fabulous trench coat for $60, hemmed for free. Double yay.
- Lunch at Pacific Whey in Newport Coast. The cafe is a great place to people and car watch (think: Lamborghinis and Ferraris), and the food is great. I steered clear of their famous pastries.
- A clean garage. That’s a big success story.
The garage from Hell
This cleanup project was long overdue. The giant space, which can house two large vehicles comfortably, had become a repository for all things unnecessary in the main house. Since I only park one car there, the remaining square footage became a place to jam in the junk I wanted to keep around. So on Sunday I donned some durable cotton, found my dirtiest shoes, put the hair in a pony tail, and dug in.
My neighbor’s daughter, Carissa, ventured over to help me out. She even brought dust masks (she’s such a smart gal for her whopping 8 years of life) … She swept, collected trash, and kept the dog preoccupied while I tore through boxes, put up a new shelving unit, organized the tools and reshuffled items for long-term storage.
It took almost nine hours, but by the end of the day, I had an amazingly clean space. Even the floor was minus the usual debris that sneaks in from the great outdoors. The Santa Ana winds had done me no favors, pushing all varieties of lawn debris, dead bugs, feathers, trash, you name it, into every crevice. Luckily, Carissa loved my extended dust mop, so she happily went from corner to corner, dust mask in place, swishing the dirt away.
I loaded the car with random things for Goodwill, where I learned they’ll also take electronic waste. That’s great news as I have an ancient PC I’d like to delete from the garage. More space!
Shelby and Sable, the “sister” Labs, showed up at 4 p.m. to help me destroy boxes. This helped me get it all jammed into the recycle bin. Here’s a video of Sable getting the job done:

Cute video, although I would’ve loved to have seen Sable walking around with the box over her head… I think that box…was one of MY moving boxes I left in your garage!!
