This is officially my summer of concerts. After years avoiding the crowds and venues, I’m diving into the live music scene. The latest chapter was a doozy.
The Travelin’ Trio (me, Iris and Marla) headed up to Los Angeles on Sunday night for a Dead Head concert. Marla is a Grateful Dead fan and her connection [...]

My friend Sharon and I drove east to Riverside County today for brunch at the new Taps. The restaurant got its start in Brea and now has a sister location in the Dos Lagos Promenade. The mall has high-end stores, which I would have explored but we ran out of time.
Brunch was plentiful, as expected. [...]

Shelby, my sister’s dog, was visiting with Katy on Friday night. They keep each other company while Christine and I head out on the town with respective friends.
In all of Shelby’s six years, she’s eaten like maniac, gobbling food as fast as possible. The food hits the bowl and, poof, it’s gone in maybe 20 [...]

Dad called from Virginia Beach last night to report that he and Mom were in the dark, without power, but safe after a storm barreled overhead. The winds tore up trees and freaked out the neighborhood, but I’m guessing they have power now because Dad sent some pictures that tell the story.
Based on these, I’d [...]

It’s official, I’m going to Mexico in October. Que bueno!!
The tickets are bought and we are commited, election be damned.
My gang of travelers will visit Oaxaca, (wah-ha-kah) during Day of the Dead celebrations. I’m a bit ashamed to admit that my experience in Mexico is limited to Tijuana. Shame!! It’s time to expand my personal [...]

Mama Lu sent confirmation today that she’ll be here July 10 for a short stay. Exciting! I was able to snag a few days off to entertain her with help from sister Christine.
Our parents live in Virginia Beach, Va., where they continue to work full time. When they have spare time, they jet to Italy, [...]

The spoiled, stray cat I’ve been feeding is getting greedy. How cute. I like being needed, and Coco Puff Kitty certainly needs me.
Our nightly meetings on the wall continue. The dinner bell doesn’t ring until 11 p.m., when my neighbors are least likely to hear me cooing to this feral creature. With flashlight in hand [...]

I’m happy to report I did not capsize the kayak in my Sunday afternoon adventure with pal Chantal.
Food first
We started the venture with a quick stop to a new grocery concept called The Market (by Vons). It’s a swanky, small shop in Belmont Shore, where high prices are par for the course. This shop was [...]

Yes, it’s still hot
Another day, another triple digit readout. I’ve been inside, reluctant to go anywhere, then got a pang of guilt and called Chantal to confirm a kayak venture in Long Beach. Yes, it’s time to move my lazy ass along.
But as far as Sundays go here, it’s been nice and mellow. I’ve taken [...]

Dang, it’s hot. I’m posting my first iSight video (sans makeup) on the first day of summer.
